Yes on Question 2

A second important referendum question is on the November 4 ballot: Question # 2, the Extreme Risk Protection Order or so-called Red Flag law.

The proposed law provides family members of a person at risk of harming themselves or others the option of petitioning a District Court to issue an Extreme Risk Protection Order.

It allows the temporary removal of weapons from the at-risk person, potentially preventing unwanted violence. Had the family of Robert Card had that option two years ago, the tragedy in Lewiston might never have happened.

Below are three compelling opinion pieces, recently published, from people with different interests, all of whom support a “Yes” vote on question # 2.

I’m a Maine gun owner and I want a red flag law,” Christina Bobrow, Farmington, Portland Press Herald, October 23

Red flag will help Maine law enforcement,” Joel Merry, Sagadahoc County Sheriff, Portland Press Herald, October 29

I was executive director of the Lewiston Commission. Here’s why I’m voting ‘Yes’ on Question 2,” Anne Jordan, centralmaine.com, October 12.
