Hancock County Dems to Elect State Committee Members

Please note that at our June meeting we will be electing two new members, and one alternate, to represent Hancock County for the Democratic State Committee. We invite all HCDC members to cast your vote at our meeting on June 18, and you may vote either in person or by Zoom.

John Fitzgerald, Michael Good, and Al Judd (former HCDC Chair) have expressed interest in running. Two will join Laurie Fogelman and MJ Schepers, who were elected at the Maine Democratic Convention in May.

Fitzgerald and Good have provided the following bios:

John Fitzgerald

I am a semi-retired attorney and member of the District of Columbia and Supreme Court bars, but not a member of the Maine bar. Most of my work has been as a Congressional staffer and then a public interest lobbyist for environmental and science organizations.

I submitted two memos that Secretary of State Bellows accepted and cited as amicus briefs in her ruling that Trump is disqualified from holding any federal or state office due to his attempt to undermine the constitution in the insurrection of January 6, 2021.

In 2018 I also helped Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) draft the bill that former Speaker Pelosi awarded the first bill number — H.R. 1 in 2019 — to protect our elections from hacking or other interference.

As a member of the Executive and Political Committees and co-chair of the Legislative Committee of the Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club, I helped draft one or two bills and many sets of testimony and endorse good Democrats across the state. I drafted a bill that was introduced to help Maine catch up with west coast states on developing and deploying methods of removing the major greenhouse gases.

I am interested in electing Democrats to all available offices as a candidate recruitment/support committee member. I am also interested in helping the HCDC and Maine to be leading voices in progressive government at all levels.

Michael Good

I have been actively involved in local politics in Bar Harbor for decades. I worked with Jonathan Carter on the clearcutting issues in Maine at the State level and have worked on economic development in Hancock and Washington Counties through Ecotourism starting in the early 1990’s  culminating in Maine’s first Birdwatching Festival, Acadia Birding Festival. I am the president and owner of Down East Nature Tours and guide internationally.

Thank you for considering me for the full member seat.
