2025 HCDC Program Schedule
HCDC meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 7pm unless otherwise noted.
Speakers are subject to change.
July: Summer Picnic
July 17, 6:00
Harbor Park and Marina, 413 Water Street, Ellsworth, ME
Bring a dish to pass and/or perhaps nonalcoholic beverages to share. Families are more than welcome since this is a fun event in a beautiful spot. Carmen LaHaye, who just graduated from Ellsworth High School, will talk about her work as an HCDC intern and just a young person doing her part for our country.
August: Marvin C. Ott, senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University.
September: Representative Nina Milliken with Jan Collins, a retired teacher who serves on the Board of Visitors for Franklin County Jail and acts as a liaison with the prison branch of the NAACP. Ms Collins’ presentation will answer the question, “I’ve never been arrested, why should I care?” She will explain how the criminal legal system touches all of us. Representative Milliken works on criminal legal reform bills in her work in the Maine House of Representatives and will explain why she thinks this work is so important.
October: We will welcome two 2026 candidates: Angus King lll, who is running for governor, and Jordan Wood, who is running for the U.S. Senate. We will follow with a general discussion about the state of our country.
November: Phil Bailey will lead a Building Bridges style workshop to help us all reduce polarization and restore civic trust by finding ways to talk peacefully to others who may strongly disagree with our beliefs.
December: Our Holiday Party will be a potluck with Shenna Bellows, a Hancock native, joining us to talk about her run for governor.
Many of our prior meetings’ recordings are posted and available for viewing. View Program Archive
