49 work slots to pull off staffing 1 Democratic tent – 5 to set up, 5 to break down, and 13 work shifts of 3 hours each, with 3 stalwart volunteers during each time. Thousands of people, hundreds of conversations. One really bad weather squall with ongoing rain and wind, then of course really hot afterwards—quick thinking under pressure and then labor putting the tent back to rights when it was possible to do it. One really fun donkey costume. Many candidates coming by for as long as they could. Eight jars highlighting different “What are you especially upset about?” causes (Continuous lies, big oil vs green policies, rollback of DEI policies, destruction of our beloved Washington DC, etc)—a great use of pocket change to vote, fun fundraising to support our office. (The Continuous Lies won with $80!) A lot of Fair food. All the people who designed and made the great buttons, stickers, hanging signs, candidate profiles, magnetized bumper stickers—people loved them. Twelve signs which were tough to anchor in the Fair sand and gravel, scrambled after when they flew away in bad weather, finally taped to benches and tables, several given toward the end to Fair vendors who pleaded for them. Four new registered voters. At least 12 gallons of water, for volunteers and for grateful parched Fair goers. One person (Dakota Dupuis) who worked and talked through 11 shifts. One kaleidoscope of an unforgettable Fair and THANK YOU THANK YOU this is not possible without incredible labor and what an accomplishment!
